Staff, Distinguished Stakeholders and Visitors,
As the Faculty of Engineering of Balıkesir University, we continue our activities
with a well-established educational vision grounded in the production of
scientific knowledge, the training of highly qualified engineers, and
meaningful contribution to society. In an era of rapid transformation and
technological advancement, we are fully aware of the critical role engineering
disciplines play in shaping the future. Accordingly, our foremost
responsibility is to educate innovative and entrepreneurial engineers who
possess strong analytical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a
firm commitment to ethical values.
Our Faculty comprises the Departments of Mechanical
Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical and
Electronics Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Computer Engineering, Food
Engineering, and Geological Engineering. Each department delivers a
research-oriented and practice-based curriculum that closely follows current
scientific and technological developments. Through our interdisciplinary
structure, students gain not only expertise in their respective fields but also
a holistic perspective by interacting with other engineering disciplines.
A student-centered approach lies at the heart of our
educational philosophy. We view our students not as passive recipients of
knowledge but as active participants in the learning process. Project-based
learning, laboratory applications, design and analysis studies, field
experiences, and teamwork constitute integral components of our curriculum. Our
primary objective is to ensure that students are equipped not only with strong
theoretical foundations but also with the ability to apply this knowledge
effectively to real-world engineering problems.
One of the most significant reflections of our commitment
to applied education is the “Workplace-Based Professional Training Program”
(7+1 model). Within this framework, students who meet specific academic
performance criteria complete their final semester directly in industry. This
experience enables them to gain hands-on professional practice, participate in
real projects, assume responsibilities within professional teams, and establish
strong connections with the sector prior to graduation. The 7+1 model
successfully integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience and
significantly enhances the employability of our graduates.
University–industry collaboration is among the strategic
priorities of our Faculty. We conduct numerous joint research and development
(R&D) projects in partnership with industrial organizations. These
collaborations not only facilitate the transfer of academic knowledge into
practice but also contribute to the technological advancement of our country.
Through active involvement in these projects, our students engage in research
processes, develop innovative ideas, and generate solutions tailored to real
sectoral needs. In this way, we foster a strong synergy between education,
research, and application.
Our academic goals include becoming a nationally and
internationally recognized faculty distinguished by impactful research outputs
and highly sought-after graduates. To this end, we aim to increase high-quality
scientific publications, research projects, and patent activities through our
dedicated academic staff; continuously enhance our laboratory and research
infrastructure; strengthen international collaborations; and promote student
mobility. We firmly believe that scientific productivity, critical thinking,
and adherence to ethical principles constitute the cornerstones of our
institutional culture.
We also recognize that engineering is not solely about
technical competence. It equally requires social responsibility, environmental
awareness, and a strong commitment to sustainability. Therefore, we place great
importance on educating engineers who are sensitive to societal needs,
respectful of the environment, efficient in resource utilization, and capable
of developing human-centered solutions. Our Faculty carries out its mission
with the vision of transforming scientific knowledge into tangible societal
benefit.
