ACADEMIC YEAR MEAL SCHOLARSHIP GUIDE

During the 2026-2027 academic year, students from low-income backgrounds studying at our university will be provided with one free meal per day in the university cafeteria. Applications for the meal scholarship will be accepted between October 12, 2026 and October 23, 2026 .

Points to Consider:

Students wishing to benefit from the Meal Scholarship should apply through https://burs.balikesir.edu.tr   . They must follow these steps when applying:

Students can apply for meal scholarships by answering the meal scholarship questions in the Scholarship Module, Scholarship Application tab.

After clicking the Scholarship Application button, the student will answer questions about themselves, and if the selected option includes the "Select File" option, the required documents must be uploaded.

Once you are sure all the information is correct, you can complete your application by clicking the "Submit Application" button. No further action can be taken after the application has been submitted.

Preparing the following documents electronically (in PDF format) before applying is important for a faster and smoother application process.

Documents to be uploaded:

* Detailed population registration certificate obtained from e-government (Family information must also be included! The parents' status must be visible in the population registration certificate. Otherwise, your answer will be considered invalid.) *Martyrdom and Veteran Status Certificate

*National Athlete Certificate

*  Document showing Loan/ Scholarship Status

* If you have a sibling studying in higher education (excluding distance learning), you need to provide proof of their active student status (this document must be obtained from e-government and be verifiable. * If you have siblings attending primary or secondary school, you need to provide documentation proving their active student status. (This document must be obtained from e-school or e-government and be verifiable. A separate document must be uploaded for each sibling attending school.) * A document showing your employment status and social security information. You can obtain your document by logging into your account on the e-government website and using the following link: ( https://www.turkiye.gov.tr/sosyal-guvenlikkayit-belgesi-sorgulama )

 

* Documents showing your family's income status. Parents' Social Security registration certificates ( You can check and print your parents' Social Security registration status via their e-government account at this address: https://www.turkiye.gov.tr/sosyal-guvenlik-kayit-belgesi-sorgulama ). For employees, a payslip; for self-employed individuals, a photocopy of their income tax return; for pensioners, a document showing their last month's salary.

* If you are disabled, a document showing your disability status.

* If you live in one of the provinces affected by the disaster centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, you will need a document from e-government showing the extent of the damage to your residence.

Students who can directly benefit from the meal scholarship

The following students are eligible to receive a meal scholarship directly upon request, without being subject to an announcement or evaluation process:

a) Students who can document that they are national athletes and who do not receive any scholarship from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

b) Students with a disability of 40% or more, provided that this is documented with a medical report.

c) Students who can document that their mother, father, or sibling is a martyr or veteran.

c) Students who have achieved first place in international/national science, culture, art, and sports fields on behalf of the university.

Evaluation of the Food Scholarship application.

Applications are evaluated taking into account the student's family information, residence status, income level, academic achievement, number of siblings attending school, status as a relative of a martyr or veteran, disability status, achievements in competitions participated in on behalf of the University, other scholarships and loans received, etc.

Students who do not use the meal allowance at all within the first month after the scholarship begins, who use less than fifty percent of the meal allowance in a semester, or who misuse the meal allowance (e.g., allowing others to use it) will have their scholarships terminated.

Method and duration of meal scholarship

Students who qualify for the meal scholarship can use it until the end of the academic year.

The meal grant provides students with one free lunch/dinner per day .

 The meal scholarship ends when the student's studies conclude.

The method and duration of awarding meal scholarships may be changed by the University Board of Directors.
