The Faculty of Engineering at Balıkesir University was formed by converting the Balıkesir State Engineering and Architecture Academy into a faculty, and it is a higher education institution that provides 4-year undergraduate education. The Academy was established in 1976 under the Ministry of National Education. The institution began its educational activities in February 1977 with the departments of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and it gained autonomous status on February 25, 1980.
When higher education institutions were subject to new regulations under the Higher Education Law and the 41st Decree-Law issued based on it, and the subsequent acceptance of the 2809 Law, the Balıkesir State Engineering and Architecture Academy was incorporated into Uludağ University under the name “Balıkesir Faculty of Engineering,” and it continued its educational activities with the departments of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering starting from the 1982-1983 academic year.
On July 3, 1992, according to the additional 12th article of the 3837 Law, it became part of Balıkesir University, which was established in Balıkesir, under the name “Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.” In 2016, the faculties of Engineering and Architecture were separated. Since then, the faculty has continued its education under the name “Faculty of Engineering.”
The continuously growing faculty, focused on constant development, currently offers 6 undergraduate programs, 8 master's programs, and 3 doctoral programs, actively admitting students. The faculty admits students to the undergraduate departments of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Food Engineering, and Computer Engineering based on their MF-weighted scores from the Central Placement System and the Higher Education Transition Exam. Students are trained as engineers in these fields.
Admission to the master's and doctoral programs is announced each year by the Institute of Science, in accordance with the relevant regulations.
